  • These are some of my favorite pictures with rays of lights shining through the trees. The pictures provide a sense of warmth and beauty while also being abstract. The images were created by zooming the lens. Different effects are achieved by changing the range zoomed and how fast the zoom is done.

  • In the Spring, Vernal Pools form on top of Lower Table Rock, which is one of two prominent volcanic plateaus located just north of the Rogue River in Jackson County, Oregon. Shaped by erosion, they now stand about 800 feet (240 m) above the surrounding Rogue Valley

  • Early morning at Lake Sabrina in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The islands in the lake are just silhouettes. Lake Sabrina is off of Hwy 168, west of Bishop, California. The lake is a popular desination for fishing and hiking.

  • Small puppies always seem to be very cute. This one is no exception. Known as a Chiweenie, he is a Chihuahua Dachshund mix who's ears cannot decide if they should be pointed up like a chihuhua or down like a Dachshund Mix. He always want to be playing.

  • Bee in mid-flight above a Indian Blanketflower. The flower is in the genus of Gaillardia sp. and also known as Firewheel, Indian blanket, Indian Blanketflower, or Sundance. It is a short-lived annual flowering plant having vivid red, orange, and yellow colors. It is a part of the Asterales order and the Asteraceae family.

  • Tulips are a symbol of the beauty of spring. There newness contrasts well with the older tree with cracked bark that has seen many season. Tulips are a perennial plant in the genus Tulipa with showy flowers, in the family Liliaceae.

  • June Lake is a subalpine lake in Mono County, California, located at an elevation of 7,621 ft its pure water results in it having a deep blue color and submerged rocks to be seen near the shore.

  • The Huntington Beach Pier is a municipal pier located in Huntington Beach, California. Huntington Beach, also known as Surf City USA, is known for its great surfing. The pier, an icon of the Huntington Beach Coast, is 1,850 feet (560 m) long and is one of the longest public piers on the West Coast. It has been damaged or destroyed four times; in 1912, 1939, 1983 and most recently on January 17, 1988 destroying the End Cafe for the second time in the decade. The first three piers were constructed from wood, the fourth and current pier is constructed from concrete and designed to withstand 31-foot (9.4 m) waves or a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. At the end of the Pier is Ruby's Diner which is a 1940's style diner serving hamburgers, shakes, and other classic American food.

The Rogue River goes through a series of elevation changes forming many waterfalls as it is forced through a narrow basalt canyon formed by the areas volcanic past. The gorge was formed by the erosive action of the river. A small cave that is on the west wall of the gorge is the end of a lava tube.

  • Susan Creek Falls is a 35 foot high waterfall that feeds into the Umpqua River. The stream passes through dark basalt rocks as it heads toward the Umpqua River. .The Umpqua River (UHMP-kwah) is on the Pacific coast of Oregon in the United States. It is approximately 111 miles (179 km) long. A maintained trail runs for 77-miles along the river through the beautiful forests and over small streams. The river drains an expansive network of valleys in the mountains west of the Cascade Range and south of the Willamette Valley, from which it is separated by the Calapooya Mountains.

  • Mount McLoughlin is a volcano in the Cascade Range of southern Oregon that is within the Sky Lakes Wilderness area. The mountain reaches 9,495 feet and is north of Mount Shasta in California, west of Upper Klamath Lake, and south of Crater Lake. On a clear day, the Sky Lakes Wilderness area, Crater Lake, Rogue Valley, and Mount Shasta are visible from the summit, which is accessible by a strenuous 5 mile hike.

The Peninsula is south of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It offers a great place to relax and enjoy nature. Door County has five state parks, ten lighthouses, and beautiful sandy beaches with the fresh, clear water of Lake Michigan.

It was named after the biblical Mount Pisgah. It is situated between the Coast Fork and Middle Fork of the Willamette River, two miles (3 km) southeast of their confluence.

  • The Wood House, was built in 1870 by Civil War veteran Martin Sylvester Wood. The house stands in Eagle Point, Oregon along Hwy 62 which leads from Medford to Crater Lake National Park. The house is one of the oldest in southern Oregon and is preserved by the Wood House Preservation Group.

  • Ornamental cherry trees flower but do not produce cherries. in the early spring, the buds on the tree bloom and fill nearly the entire tree with flower blossoms that range in color from white to pink depending on the cultivar. The blooms appear before the foliage. Once the blooming season is finished, the leaves will appear.

  • Bearded irises have a fuzzy area on the lower petal of the flower. Here two bearded yellow irises dispay their vibrant color. Iris is a genus of flowering plant with attractive flowers containing between 200-300 species. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species.

  • In the Cascade Mountains in Oregon, the Rogue River flows through the mountains and eventually to the Pacific Ocean. Here the river pass through a narrow canyon with steep walls. Fresh snow covers rocks and trees. Each year the Cascade Mountains receive a lot of snow. Crater Lake which is not too far away averages 533 inches (44 feet) of snow a year.

  • La Salle Canyon Falls in Winter - Frozen Waterfall at Starved Rock State Park in Illinois. The cold Midwest winters freeze the waterfalls in the park creating a magnificent display of ice and icicles. Water can be heard dripping through the ice. Starved Rock State Park is known for its multiple canyons and waterfalls which are unlike the flat midwest. The canyons and waterfalls are all close to each other. Being less that than two hours from Chicago, the park is popular place for hiking.

  • While searching for a Christmas Tree, I came a across this calm mountain stream in California that feeds into Applegate Lake. The white trees reflect in the calm stream and create a surreal winter scene.

  • While searching for a Christmas tree, I came across this cabin near the California-Oregon border close to Applegate Lake. The cabin was completely abandoned and open to the elements. The empty black space of the open window draws your eye as it tries to determine what is beyond the window.

  • McKee Covered Bridge, built in 1917, in southern Oregon crosses over the Applegate River. The fall color of the trees leaves can be seen in the trees. The Applegate River is a 51-mile (82 km) long tributary of the Rogue River. It drains forested foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains along the Oregon-California border.

  • The leaves of this tree have turned a vibrant yellow color. The edges of the leaves and the veins that carry nutrients in the leaves are lit by bright sunlight.

  • Crater Lake is located in Southern Oregon on the crest of the Cascade Mountain range. It lies inside a caldera, or volcanic basin, created when the 12,000 foot (3,660 meter) high Mount Mazama collapsed during a violent eruption...Crater Lake has a depth of 1,943 feet (592 meters) and is the seventh deepest lake in the world and the deepest in the United States. Crater Lake receives on average 533 inches of snow each year which supplies the lake with with water. There are no inlets or outlets to the lake. Evaporation and seepage prevent the lake from becoming any deeper.

  • Toketee Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in Oregon. It is recognized for its graceful columnar basalt formation that frame the two tiers of the falls. The waterfall is 113 feet high with a 28 foot upper fall and and a 85 foot lower fall that plunges into a wide pool. The North Umpqua River carved a gorge out of the lava flow which resulted in this marvelous waterfall. Above the waterfall is a dam from which most water is diverted to a powerhouse down stream through a wooden 12 foot diameter pipeline. The pipeline is visible from the trailhead parking lot. As a result of the dam and the diversion of the North Umpqua River, the river has been artifically tamed allowing the river to flow in an extremely consistent manor all year long.

  • Near Tuolumne Meadows, Dog Lake is a small lake surrounded by woods rather than granite hills. Neaby the lake is Lembert Dome which overlooks the meadows and the Tuolumne River. The treeless granite dome has a sheer west face, 300 feet high, that becomes less steep on the other three sides. It is a popular destination for hiking which brings many people also to Dog Lake.
